The Gallery of Noise III: The Social Morality is Immoral

It has been said that social morality is immoral.

It is a difficult statement to agree with because if it is agreed that social morality is immoral, then it has to be rejected. And what is meant by social morality? It is understood to be made of greed, envy, ambition, nationality, worship of class, worship of success, and all the rest of it.

But is it really rejected, or are only words spoken?

It has been observed that to be really moral is one of the most extraordinary things in life. And it has also been observed that this real morality has nothing to do with social or environmental behaviour. Freedom is required to be really virtuous. Freedom is not there if the social morality of greed, envy, competition and worship of success is followed.

The social morality that is put forward as moral is often composed of everything that is not good. Becoming good is preached, while everything that is not good is practiced. It has been pointed out that a mind which has denied this kind of morality, not verbally or intellectually but actually in daily life, is highly moral.

This denial is not immorality. This denial is the beginning of a higher morality. A morality that is not shaped by fear.

In the galleries of our daily life, this social morality is seen as noise. Noise is created, and then others are blamed for the noise. Whispers are spread in the air. Words are twisted and facts are bent to portrait others wrongly. Weak hearts are found to be manipulating and pretending.

A free mind does not listen to those whispers. It does not jump branches. It practices economy of thought.

Then a new dimension of success is discovered. It has been felt that success does not mean getting a position or fame exclusively. Success is also meant to be reading one's own thoughts, controlling one's inner traffic, and remaining quiet in the worst conditions. This success cannot be recognized by anyone except oneself.

That quietness is the foundation of a mind that is completely moral. Not made moral by society, but moral by freedom.
