Today something very small happened at work. A list was forwarded to him. Rohan was told to amend and shorten it. So, he amended, shortened and formatted it and shared it with everyone. Later, one entry in that list turned out to be wrong. A name was mixed up with another similar name.
The error was not his. He had only shortened and amended.
Still, he prepared a correction note and shared the updated version immediately.
Then his senior told him, "You call them and explain."
He said, "Sir, this error did not come from me. I have already shared the correction with you. It will be better if you speak to them."
He said no.
And after saying no, he felt bad.
Why was he told to call? The person who made the original error could have been asked to call. But he was chosen. Because he is known to be soft-spoken and cooperative. Everyone knows it.
Cooperative people are easy to send. They will apologize politely. They will absorb the blame. They will protect the team by sacrificing themselves.
He thought about it. If he had called and simply said, "Sorry, it was a mistake," the other party would have assumed he was careless. His credibility would have dropped.
If he had called and said, "It was not my fault, someone else gave me the wrong information," then he would have looked like a person who blames his own colleagues. He would have been labeled as someone with no team spirit.
In both situations, he would have been judged as wrong. So he took the third path. He refused to make that call.
For the first time, he refused to become a shield for someone else's error.
Now he keeps asking — "Have I become a man of attitude? Have I become a difficult person? Am I losing my goodness?"
The writer don't think so. The writer thinks he is becoming a man who refused to be controlled.
For years, Rohan said yes to everything to keep the peace. People appreciated him because he was convenient, not because he was respected.
Today he said no. Without anger, without disrespect. Just with clarity. He will not carry a weight that is not his.
Feeling bad after saying no does not mean he is wrong. It means he is a good person who is learning to set boundaries. Wrong people never feel bad after saying no.
Rohan is not turning to be bad. He is turning into a person who has realized — his sincerity is not available for misuse.
