Champaran is not just a district in Bihar. It’s a place where history folded back on itself.
Ancient India:
This region was close to Nalanda — the world’s first residential university. A place where education was at its peak. Scholars from many foreign countries like China, Korea, Persia came here to study. The air itself was about learning and debate.
Modern India:
And then in 1917, the same land became the birthplace of Satyagraha in India. Gandhi came to Champaran to fight for indigo farmers. No weapons. Just truth, law, and courage. That was the first seed of Satyagraha.
So Champaran connects both eras.
Ancient: peak of knowledge at Nalanda.
Modern: peak of moral courage with Gandhi.
There is something special in this soil.
This soil has always produced people who dared to question, to learn, and to stand for what’s right.
